The Gershwin Theatre

The Gershwin Theatre is at 222 West 51st Street and has been home to Wicked for several years now.  The stage door has the same number as the house in which Gershwin was born!

250 West 50th Street

This building is now called Avalon and is between 7th and 8th Avenues.  From 1998-2005 it was called the Gershwin Building and in the lobby I found a massive photo of George and Ira.

PS 20

George went to school at PS 20 when it was located at Rivington and Forsyth Streets.  This building is on East Houston Street between Essex Street and Norfolk Street.

This mural may represent the old school building.

The 300 Club

George often played at the 300 Club which was a speakeasy at 151 West 54th Street. The hostess was an actress called Texas Guinan. Her name inspired the Star Trek Next Generation character played by Whoopi Goldberg and her catchphrase “Hello Suckers!” is used in the musical, “Chicago”. This is now a hotel and a public walkway.
